Housing becomes a big issue in the US presidential campaigns

Times: Video: The Obama-McCain war of the houses

In a recent interview, John McCain couldn't remember how many houses he owns. The answer is seven. The Obama campaign wasted no time in pouncing on this, releasing the following video ads within hours....

Here's a transcript and summary:

Ad 1:
[Obama]: "I'm Barack Obama, and I approve this message."
[Voiceover]: "Maybe you're struggling just to pay the mortgage on your home, but recently John McCain said "The fundamentals of our economy are strong". Hmm. Then again, that same day when asked how many houses he owns, McCain lost track. He couldn't remember. Well, it's seven. Seven houses. And here's one house [video shows Whitehouse] America can't afford to let John McCain move into."

Ad 2:
This is a vox pop asking people on the street how many houses they own and whether they've ever forgotten the figure. The answers are all 0-2 houses, and no of course they never forget how many.

Ad 3:
McCain's revenge ad is to do with a murky property deal that Obama was involved in a few years ago. The video is confusing and lacks the punch of Obama's ads.

@ handle-it:

have to agree. Obama offers the appearance of change, but there is nothing new, from his very first speech after winning the nomination battle (to the US-Israel lobby - clearly no change there then, he intends to continue to bankroll a bunch of corrupt war criminals running an illegal occupation) to his backtracking on Iraq, on the stupid little flag that dumber americans wear, and on a host of other issues.

Another neocon in all but name. (And let's face it, on the religious delusions front - 'God helps me govern' - McCain looks a far safer bet than Obama even though he is starting to pander to these dangerous 'god' people a bit more now).
