And Now for Something Completely Different..

BBC: Minister calls for 'tax on rich'

Ivan Lewis "has called on the government to consider a tax on high earners to help the middle classes through the economic slowdown". "Other suggestions include a windfall tax or a temporary freeze on stamp duty payments". "Earlier this month, Chancellor Alistair Darling said that a stamp duty holiday was one option the government was considering to boost the stagnant housing market"...That's sooo original Ivan!

Get the rich to pay more tax and some will move abroad taking their wealth with them, devastating the economy even further. I wish that they would just put high taxation onto BTLers and second home owners, let the housing market crash quickly, then regulate lending to not exceed multiples of four times a salary. I'm aware that this is wishful thinking.

Tax this Tax that, it's all irrelevant, we live in one of the most highly taxed and expensive countries in the world to live and yet the supposed answer is more Tax! Any plan to Tax the Rich is irrelevant as the vast majority of them are sensible enough to employ Tax Consultants to ensure they pay the absolute minimum thanks to our complex loophole ridden system of Taxation. The UK has had its glory days and is in its economic twilight propped up by the long term monetary borrowings of its indebted populace and as a nation we had better get used to the new era of economic austerity irrespective of any attempts by a bankrupt government to delude the general population that Taxation will sole the problem, it won't.

You couldn't really make this stuff up, "to help the middle classes through the economic slowdown".
What about the working class who have now become an underclass in modern Britain?
The real target should be buy to let investors and second whom owners who contribute nothing to the communities in which they invest. They are a moral, social and economic drain on society. Why doesn't the government impose a high tax on rental income from BTL property?

Our glorious leaders know perfectly well that more taxation won't solve our economic problems. However, taking money away from all those nasty, greedy rich people will be popular with disaffected NuLab voters and might just gain them a few points in the opinion polls. All NuLab is concerned with at this point is hanging on to seats, power and perks.

If you don't understand it and it's in the UK, tax something.
If you don't understand it and it's abroad, throw troops at it.
Remember, the latest tax changes adversely affected the poor, not the rich until they were forced to back-track.
When it comes down to tax it is not those who should pay that are targeted, it is those who it is easier to tax.

The western world is a joke, the rich buy yachts, fast cars, mansions and offset taxes with clever accountants. The poor and that is most of the population earning less than 50k, some of these low earners think they are well off but in reality own little or nothing. when you buy a house it is supposed to be the biggest financial spend but in fact the taxman must take credit for this. I am amazed that you can earn less than 10k and the taxman is taking his cut even though the individual has nothing, no holidays, no new car, no nice watch, no nice house etc., If the multi-millionaires had to pay the same proportion of income in tax as those earning average incomes the country would have a lot more tax to spend although the goverment would probably waste it! The west should be ashamed that within it's boundaries are poor people that have nothing but lost potential. It is no wonder that crime is much higher amongst the poor when society only rewards the rich and has no regard for the poor. The rich should be ashamed, gold taps and gold juicers how rediculous! the rich should want to pay more tax to help society improve.

Tax those who have speculated recklessly, forcing up prices.

Leave the honest hard workers alone.

The notion to tax the wealthy more makes a lot of sense. A progressive tax system is fundamental to our democracy and ensures a reasonable fair distribution of wealth. At present the lower paid contribute a larger proportion of their income in tax than the rich. We have heard many times how wealth has been redistributed to the better off in recent years, surely an outrage in a society.

I don't accept the view that the rich will all clear off and impoverish the country. And I don't accept the view that they all create their wealth: they are simply in a position to transfer large sums into their pockets. You only have to look at investment bankers to realise that.
