Firstly, why is the personal finance correspondent reporting on this, secondly what happened to the Halifax figures released today?
Telegraph: House prices fall for tenth month, says Land Registry
House prices have fallen for the tenth month in a row as the rate of growth hit a record low, new figures show.

paul - call me a cynic but you should know by now that the Halifax figures tend to be released on the day that the BOE make their rate decision - which I think is Thursday August 7th.

I dont understand where these figures that economic journalists, and land registry etc come up with. If you log onto propertysnake, and enter your postcode, its shows the real drops and lists of estate agents valuations. {I have no affiliations with propertysnake, but I have only just found the site, and I think its great}
I called an Estate Agent today in Ilkley in North Yorkshire, and she swore to me that; 'Ilkley is a bubble and prices have not dropped at all'
I asked her for the postcode. LS29. The first two that came up on propertysnake were 23% and 19% reduced respectively.
When I mentioned this, I could hear her turn crimson!

Forgive me for saying this, but it almost looks like a conspiracy.

Or are you referring to the Halifax quarterly figures which came out last Friday .

Halifax released a quarterly report today, but its been buried.
Obviously the Housing, Property and Economics Correspondents over at the Telegraph were far too pre-occupied with other things. Like getting their property portfolios on some estate agents books quick-sharp I expect.

Plato, a conspiracy implies some sort of concerted and coordinated effort between people. This could be explained by independent people, not conspiring, but working with similar pressures, worries and motivations. It's not like this article is trying to say it's all OK. Although an interesting VI spin on seasonal adjustment at the end. I'm sure I've read people here using seasonal adjustment to explain why falls aren't big enough.
I'm not saying it's not a conspiracy, just that there are other explanations.

How fortunate it is then that there is no conspiracy until proven ( an impoossible task) -------- Hence the word 'almost'.

It is a conspiracy to make it not look like a conspiracy.
