Brown to operate scorched earth economic policy to make it difficult for an upcoming Conservative administration

Daily Telegraph: Gordon Brown to ditch strict borrowing rules

Gordon Brown's strict fiscal rules on borrowing are likely to be ditched as a result of the credit crisis, the Treasury confirmed. The Conservatives accused the Prime Minister of abandoning his reputation for economic competence, after officials said that the requirement for public sector borrowing to be kept below 40 per cent of the economy was being re-examined. Critics however accused the Government of planning a "scorched earth" assault on the economy to make it difficult for an upcoming Conservative administration.

This is not the first time Broon had changed his "golden rule", he has already redefined the start and and of the economic cycle to borrow more. AFAIKS he has been operating a scorched earth policy since 1997 with the UK economy and we are all about to reap the whirlwind.

I think it's more an issue wit him wanting to keep conservatives out full stop.
Can you imagine the tax rises or cuts needed to keep below.
If you think he is unpopular now just imagine what people would think of him then.

He can always rely on the fact that most people were stupid enough to think house prices always going up like mad were good and will also have no real understanding of whats wrong with Gordon Borrowing lots of money to keep the public services going.
If they don't understand the consequences in the short term most people don't really care.

We NEED to be out protesting about this. By God, he is totally mad, and we all bend over and take it, like Brown was an evil prefect bully in a private school. For pete's sake people, can we all do something to try take back parliament?! And the Country?! Do we have any patriots left here?! The Tories will know that they can get away with murder now that we have let ourselves be buggered by brown.

I have never ever thought of GB as being anything other that a spoilt, stupid and petulant schoolboy.

All the stories I have heard about him from former ministers, confirm this.

What have I been saying about a desperate politician and desperate party.

I must be getting old, because as each day passes I am getting a strong urge to become a politician.

Whether I'd be any good is another matter as my main concern/motivation is to do something good for my country and be remembered for it.

This man has not been voted in to this position by the population and he is setting about doing more damage to our country in his last 18 months in power as he's managed in the previous 10 years as chancellor.
