Bring on the destruction

A very scary and possibly real situation that could unfold very shortly.

America has loads of reserves. Yeah, it will be tough there, but there are enough self sufficient types to shore up the security of a large piece of real estate.
Its the rest of the world that I really worry about. Once America goes totally isolationist and more and more of their energy is consumed internally.

The only worse thing than having the Americans knocking around causing trouble, is not having them knocking around.

And as for law enforcement. That is only a problem when you have stupid multi-culti federal government breathing down you neck trying to do everything. Just use local manpower, deputize and get on with it. Nobody wants idiots with firebombs burning stuff outside their local bowling alley. And add to that that US citizens are generally quite well armed.

I agree with this video's economic message, but I disagree that we all need to find God to oppose socialism! I have been a lifelong right wing libertarian, free marketeer, and atheist. Mostly though, the video preaches the right message. It was made 15 years ago, but are its predictions now about to come true?

I think this video may actually be sponsored by US right-wing fundamentalists hoping that the Credit Crunch is the beginning of the End Times, so I would take it with a pinch of salt. When it comes to vested interests in disaster, they can teach Jeremiah a thing or two (or was it the other way around...?)

last_days_of_disco, I'm affraid the US shows no signs of becomeing isolationist. They have arguably the most aggressive foriegn policy in the world and I can't see that changing dramatically in the near future.

How do you see the US becoming isolationist?

The banks took back some 220,000 homes in the second quarter (and 370,000 in the first six months of the year) and there are presently 18.6 million homes in the country standing empty, the highest number in history. The number of vacant houses has jumped nearly 7 percent in the last year.

A few points,

- Why waste people's time with this. It's at least 15 years old ?
- It waits until it gets right until the end before the real right wing christian shctick comes out in all it's glory
- If this has anything to do with the house price crash then you may as well post links to 'loose change' or any of the kennedy assination theories,

Seriously, there are plenty of places for this sort of tripe, not here though....

Sold 2 Rent 1,

Drewster has a good point. These videos are quite time consuming. Most of us just don't have the time and if you want to persuade people, asking them to watch a 40 minute documentary is not helping your cause.

As it happens, I did have some time today and I watched it. It was quite interesting on the whole and quite depressing of course but what I'd really prefer to read about is a similar analysis of the UK's public debt. The video implied that Europe and Asia are relatively better run but I supect that it's about 5 years old.

What proportion of UK tax is used to service debts?

Drewster,

The main thesis was that since Lyndon B. Johnson's presidency, the US has been borrowing to fund Federal spending and the propotion of US taxes required to service the debt, never mind pay of the principal, has been rising at an unsustainable rate. Essentially, the video argues that the US government will go bust at some point with dire consequences.

baroo,

I think LDOD's point is that once the US government cannot borrow any more money, it will be unable to function. This would inevitably halt funding for foreign military expeditions and US foregin policy would revert to pre WWII isolationism.

I thought it was a good film. A bit heavy on the religious side at the end,but it forecast problems arising from the need for the US govt to print mony as its way out of the crisis arising from it's eventual inability to service the national debt- except that that wouldn't actually be a way out. It emphasises that Government and individual indebtedness are compounding exponentionally to create a situation where the US Govt will have nowhere else to go, other than to destroy it's own economy by printng money.

Isn't that where we're at now- or close to it?

I too would like more time to be able to watch videos but just because I haven't it doesn't make them less valid or inappropriate for this blog in my opinion. If the subject matter is of interest to you just bookmark it and watch when you have free time. Why someone should be expected to explain in any great detail the contents of a linked video is beyond me. Thank you STR1 for posting this video. I don't agree with most of what you say regards any predetermined outcome of bank bail-outs etc but your input is of value to me and I'm sure others. I know little about you and sometimes wonder why you are here so often but I'm sure you have your reasons and I won't belittle or disrespect your passionate interest in current affairs.

The problem with these videos is that at best they ram home a point that could be summarised in a couple of lines. This one is pretty much summarised by quiet guy @ 7.

handle_it,

I agree that it doesn't make the content any less valid, but thoughts can be expressed much faster in text than in video. It's also easier to counteract particular points if you don't have to keep rewinding and fast-forwarding to see where the logical fallacies lie.

Quiet guy,

Thanks for the summary. It's interesting that in both the UK and US the long-term trend for public debt has been ever-higher, but it still hasn't reached a tipping point. I get the feeling it's a bit like the housing crash, you know it's going to come but you can't really tell when or how. Only when China stops buying Treasury Bonds will the whole thing collapse.
