Sorry - can't raise the deposit

Reuters: Credit crunch hits Olympic Village financing

"The one billion pound Olympic Village for the London 2012 Games will require greater public financing than previously expected because of the global credit crunch, organisers said on Friday. The village -- to house athletes and officials -- is the single largest project of the Olympics development in the east of the capital, and was intended to be largely financed by the private sector".

Why not use them pop-up festival tents from Argos - they're only thirty quid.

I know, why don't we just print the money and give it to private contractors to do the job and to the people who own the land. Okay, so the public will all pay via infation and will be left the the mother of all white elephants, but who care? Sounds daft?

And you thought the dome was a waste of money.

The village in Barcelona was supposed to be primarily for local affordable housing, but, ran into similar financial difficulties and ended up being purely private.

Ummm Might be a return to the 1948 London Olympic values, a cut price games in a bankrupt post war Britain.
Frankly, I don't care, I find the whole event pointless and dull. It all ends up being a kind of controlled tribalism.
Remember the BBC program 'The year of the sex Olympics'? Art immitates life.

I agree with you entirely on that one gtc. However, the government seem to have a very keen eye for projects that will allow them to leave a lasting reminder of their legacy. Unfortunately they are so incompetent it always goes wrong.

After the dome fiasco, why exactly have we allowed these idiots a blank cheque to do exactly the same again? It would be like calling Enron, and asking them to manage the grid. Or asking if hindley can be put on day release so she can babysit. How anyone ver thought the olympics were going to be a success is beyond me. Total embarressment.
