There you go. Group think. Pushed into a less flexible pricing model by a group of people who thought they knew better and didn't. But hey so long as the lights go out at the same time for all of us .. that's better.

I still make no comment about the specific case. Merely the model that price adjustment is less of a clunking fist, causes less distortion and handles many of the problems naturally that rationing won't

Another sign of how weak the Government are and the lack of contingency plans put in place.
If something like this strike happened in the USA they would have ordered a price freeze to reduce panic and discourage blatant profiteering fueling panic buying.
Weak Country, weak infrastructure and very weak PM.

Its all down to the B(w)ank of England printing too much money to bail out currupt, bankrupt b(w)anks that are using OUR money to ramp up the commodities market. Further price fixing like this attempt to stop the market responding, will only lead to shortages and lead to the small fry businesses being shut down. THIS IS DAYLIGHT ROBBERY! I can't believe that they have the audacity to blame the poor petrol station owner!

I remember a petrol station trying this trick in the 2000 fuel strikes. Local opposition was so fierce that everyone boycotted it for a month afterwards. It quickly went out of business.

There you go then. That is probably the solution - if indeed this is the case.
However, if it is more justified this time then it is likely to survive. That is in effect the most successful mechanism for determining if something is appropriate or not.

I believe there is a business decision there about cutting into his own margins temporarily to maintain future custom versus the competition.
Probably best dealt with locally as between himself and his customers they will have all the information.
See how intricate and efficient it all is? At least i think so.

Personally, if a garage wants to charge £1000/litre they should be allowed to do so - they'll soon go out of business. FGS, let the market decide.
