Timesonline: Ireland under Franco-German pressure to hold new EU vote

The Irish government is expected to bow to Franco-German pressure and hold a second referendum to try to rescue the Lisbon treaty that voters rejected this month.
The plan for a possible new vote in Ireland, being discussed by some ministers in Dublin, will be greeted with outrage by opponents of the treaty in Britain.
Irish ministers believe it may be able to rescue the treaty if they can secure concessions from Europe to placate voters on a list of issues.
“A yes vote can be achieved if the Irish people are offered guarantees on issues like defence and taxation,” said one senior Irish official.

Warm words in public about giving Ireland 'time and space' to consider its position could not disguise bitterness behind the scenes after it emerged that Mr Sarkozy had branded the Irish 'bloody fools'. (20/Jun/08 The Daily Mail)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Irish voter must remember this arrogance, and say No yet again.

A new vote is pointless if you can't accept the answer. Can the EU accept no for an answer?

Does Sarkozy not remember that the French voted NON - which is why they didn't bother to ask them this time round. If you cannot take the people with you then you should not continue. I just wonder when the first national resistance movements start up, and just at a time when police forces around the UK and Europe are tied up with watching muslim terrorists.

The EU will keep marching forward, a yes vote will eventually be obtained even if it takes 5 years and a host of referenda. It cannot be stopped by one country.
Also, even if the entire electorate of the EU did reject it, they'll just educate the upcoming electorate and wait for them to vote yes.

I suggest the new EU President along with the damned currency be called "NERO", rather than euro.

Na, it's all over for the EU, this is it, from here on it's downhill all the way., and we can go back to being a Free Trade Area again.

The sooner the EU is dead and people like Mandelson stop getting overpaid for doing nothing, with our money, the better.

Throughout europe, those who think that the concept of 'ever closer union' is an unstoppable force, are now very much in the minority.

If they force the Irish into a second vote with no substantial sweeteners added, they'll get an even bigger NO vote. If they re-write the treaty to make it so good the Irish can't refuse; they will have start the ratification process all over again for the other countries.

The EU is a bad joke - it can only work if the people within its member countries feel patriotic towards europe as whole, over and above their sense of loyalty to their home country.

There isn't a shred of evidence to suggest that people are moving in that direction It will all end in tears, eventually.

The relevance to HPC =
1.The ultimate meltdown, potentially, of all individually-owned assets, by "rule from above."
2.Total breakdown of normal order, because of "totally inept" rule from above.
3 Total control of assets for VI interest, from totally inept control from above!
Thus, the final analysis - as far as the West, generally, and UK, particularly, is concerned - will then depend on the action/reaction from those who are still "clear-thinking" and those who still have some semblance of conscience to protect the "widow, orphan, and alien" without trashing the whole economy for VI, and totally selfish reasons.
If you think that things are bad right now, and you have a sensitive constitution, move out soon.
I'm staying around, because I've made some reasonable sound decisions, have a compassionate streak, and perhaps can still have a reasonable standard of living while helping the many who are really going to suffer, from the last decade’s government, which has been the absolute worst, and most immoral, that the UK has ever experienced!!
Make your own decisions, but we are going to experience very dark winter experiences, for years to come…………..and that is only during the summer months. [things can only get???]
