Just another piece of evidence pointing to the fallacy of all the claims about a housing shortage. All these empty flats should be perfect for all the extra single households we hear so much about. Must be a shortage of mansions.

Is this partly the result of Prescott's blundering clearance scheme being put on hold? There was a lot of uproar about that 2-3 years ago, but I've not heard a peep recently.

Are the bulldozers still busy in places like Middlesborough and Liverpool, or has that grand idea been quietly shelved?

Very significant to see the emphasis on new homes being left empty - makes a bit of a mockery of the notion of a shortage.

Rise due to those who think that as they can't sell at 2007 prices, they might as well rent it out until the market recovers
