What to expect from a discredited government

ThisIsMoney: £10bn lost in tax credit mistakes

"Fraud and error in the tax credit system has cost the taxpayer £10bn over just four years. The amount is enough to pay for the 2012 Olympics or equal to just over 3p on income tax. The overpayment crisis runs alongside a growing controversy over the way tax credits favour single parents at the expense of couples. Researchers have shown that some couples would be £100 a week better off if they split up thanks to the effect of tax credits" This is the beginning of the collapse of the Labour social policies as we know them! long overdue!

Why do the Tories persist with their feeble and unconvincing line about sharing the proceeds of future economic growth?

If I were running central office, I would get a squad of young ambitious wannabe MP's on the task of trawling for government waste, and detailing every count; with instructions to produce at least two press releases every week.

The message should be 'by cutting waste we can cut taxes' - and make sure every candidate and spokesman has a list of examples committed to memory..

I totally agree. Ten years of stealth taxes with very little to show for it and the waste that we've all suspected for so long really does need to be exposed. I guess Cameron might be keeping just such a tactic up his sleeve for the general election campaign, which lets face it won't be until the last possible opportunity in 2010 or whenever.

First of all, the term single parent is both technically incorrect and more recently politically incorrect (due to valid informed critisism) the correct politically correct term currently being 'lone parent'.

Rather like global warming is taboo since it has been proved to be bo££ocks and VIs have been instructed to use the term 'climate change' which ironically describes precisely what climates have always done.

Back to housing, availability etc.
"Researchers have shown that some couples would be £100 a week better off if they split up thanks to the effect of tax credits"

Real life experience has shown me that various friends (couples) of my daughters' (I have more than one) have chosen to live separately because a lone parent can claim much more in benefits more easily. Often they are running two homes both subsidised with tax payers debt (there is no money).

Clearly this is putting a burden on availabilty and affordability and provides an incentive to work the system rather than work in the system. Most of these people are not completely stupid and are aware they are living under the rule of a corrupt political, banking and legal system. As things get even tougher the VI's must have contingency plans to cope with the backlash just around the corner. Now, where's that database post?

The more complicated the system, the more scope for fraud, and the harder it is for honest people to claim. Who would have thought it?
