MP's demand 62% pay rise
Timesonline: MPs demand £23,000 tax-free grant to hide expenses
"Senior MPs on the House of Commons Commission have recommended a salary rise from £61,820 now to about £75,000 after the next general election, expected in 2010."
...this equates to paying themselves an above inflation pay rise of 23%. Wonder what the police, nurses, teachers etc will have to say about this, especially when you add on the new requirements for housing allowance of 23.000GBP, making their pay rise a whopping 62%. Corruption alive and well in Whitehall. It's so good to see the powers that be are in such good touch with their constituents.

Didn't Gordon Brown say
Brown said he had taken the “difficult decision” to prolong the pay limits because the government wants to “break the back of inflation” and “maintain stability” in the economy. He said that unless we all carry on tightening our belts, pay rises will be eaten up by higher prices and increased mortgage and rent payments.
Oh , that only applies to the public sector proles, not MPs who need more money to cope with inflation.

"MPs are also preparing to reopen the battle over salaries, arguing that it is unfair that they are paid £10,000 less than head teachers and £40,000 less than equivalent roles in the private sector."
REALLY. WELL WHY DON'T THEY JUST GO THERE THEN AND LEAVE THE JOB TO SOMEONE ELSE

There should be absolutely no doubt in anyones mind that MP's are only out for themselves....always have been and always will be.

These are career politicians... whether they perform any ethical function seems irrelevant to them.

No qualifications needed, and hundreds of applicants for every job! Why on earth pay more. In the private sector this would lead to wage reductions.

Anyone fancy starting a 'REFORM WESMINSTER' party on a one year ticket to clean up politics ? I would be an MP willing to vote myself out after a year, if it means getting these pigs noses out of the trough.

They are absolute pigs!

Yeah, right, but what does this have to do with property prices? Stick it on I'matediousconspiracytheorist.com next time.

How much more of this incessant p*ss taking can people take?

So they are feeling the pinch too. Difference is, they can demand action on the rising cost of living. They won't be successful.

Not just Labour MPs then? So how will voting Conservative make any difference? At least Uncle Chris is thinking out of the box.
MPs can get waay with this because they know we cannot punish them for it at an election.

MPs need a pay cut, to encourage the power and wealth-hungry to go elsewhere. Public scrutiny of all expenses - someone came up with the fantastic idea of building a block of flats for them to stay in in London instead of sky-high property prices payed for by the tax payer. In fact, why do they even need to be in London? There needs to be massive reform.

They need to be in London cos it's handy for all the other jobs they've got on the side.
Here's an idea, move Parliament to Leeds or Manchester, so they can use up one of the empty blocks of newbuild flats!!!!
And make it illegal for them to hold other jobs while in office...surely it isn't right for public officials to hold such vested interests.
Complete reform is needed...I'm sure somebody will 'whip' me into shape over this, but I'd get rid of party politics so we can vote for representatives who have real convictions. Doesn't the word Parliament come from the French word 'to talk'....it should be about individuals arguing their case and ending in a democratic vote. I'd love to vote for somebody who held the stance I felt most appropriate for running the country, and not for some wimp who tried to keep everyone happy with meaningless soundbites... and then voted for their own self interest.
Better stop now, or else I'll rant on forever.....
