More job cuts will be the result

BBC News: Air France warns on fuel prices

It's not mentioned in the article but how long before the big airlines lay off staff as the lack of people willing to fly to their holiday destination increases. That's a lot of Pilots, Stewards, Baggage Handlers, Aircraft Engineers, etc world wide. Anyone truly believe now that house prices and rents can remain high, or have the last of the housing Bulls truly left the building.

Assuming oil prices remain high, then airlines will be forced to raise ticket prices. Consumers who are already struggling with higher household bills won't be able to afford travel, and airlines will go out of business. Companies will rediscover the value of conference calls and video-conferencing instead of face-to-face meetings. Perhaps the providers of video-conferencing systems will fare well in a recession.

Ahhh - but what's bad news for the airlines, will most likely be great news for B&B's, campsites, seaside restaurants and guest houses in the UK. There's far too much air travel anyway - why on Earth (cos that's what it will cost) does anyone need to go shopping in New York for the weekend.

I'm sure the French government (EU Taxpayer) will bail Air France out of any financial difficulties they encounter. After all the EU only exists to keep French industry subsidised.

There is no escape for the Airlines. The combination of expensive fuel, higher costs and tighter public/commercial spending is the worst thing that could happen to their business.
Could end up with one Airline per Continent.
