I am rather curious to know how much debt these households have accumulated over the past decade via mortgage loans (!!), credit card, etc.
These utterly hopeless and futile economic activities (like an octopus eating its own tentacles) are certainly counted into the GDP growth rate Crash G and Nulabor(atory of failure) has been so proud of.

Not surprising figures resulting from a policy of a benefits system which can be seen to encourage people to work as little as possible and be subsidised for doing so. Easily understood and used by those without a social conscience. Unfortunately the genuine cases are tarred with the same brush.
Of course on the face of it, the statistics hide the real cost and numbers not actually working in the normal sense.
You know, somebody actually worked out this devious use of statistics. Terrible way to behave!

Interesting stat is the AVG number of childeren per household where no one is in full time employment compared to AVG of those households with someone in full time employement.
Now some of that could be down to having a spare 45 hours (inc commute a week) and less "Nights out" but seriously.
If benefits were reduced for each additional child born while on benefit, ie you have a nice council house now, but knock another sprog out and your off to a shared dorm with shared showers/kitchen/TV facilities and be provided with meals/food/beds and Re-Training only and that is all...Oh and you will be expected to help with all food prep/gardening/cleaning/teaching etc.
You would see a huge reuction of immigration, and a more competative labour market, right now the balance is well out of whack, and breeds yet more non starters that don't aspire to much more than mooching off the state
It's as good as being on 20K a year, no wonder we have a shortage of nurses, why whipe some old dears bottom when you are better off knocking out a sprog and taking advantage of our genrous benefits system, hell better yet work cash in hand down the local boozer and live on equiv 35K pa.
Ditch RTB and force people to downsize after each sprogs hits 18, then you will save billions out of the tax budget and have plenty of social housing for families that have really hit hard times, rather than opted for it!

Part-time workers are sometimes parents, disabled, carers and lower wages are paid to these dedicated people.
Some businesses reduce the hours to stay afloat.
The financial help for parents that choose to bring their children up properly with one parent at home, as we did, does not exist! we have survived on one income for 12 years and it has been hard, the parent at home does not sign on and is not an unemployed statistic, is not entitled to a pension and is not entitled to get retrained, it is as if being a good parent makes you invisible.

What incentive is there to go to work? Easy to get a cash in hand job in the areas identified. We all know lots of people doing this, don't we?
Sooner or later it all goes pear shaped. So, when is Gordon planning the next election?
What a mess for the election winners to inherit!

Good to see Neu Liebour policies working then.

We should be measuring the number of people who actually work and those who pay tax. If those figures were made public we might see the cause of some of this malaise as well as galvanising the responsible to demand action.

Official stats are all lies. They have always been subject to bias and massage but provably (www.shadowstats.com) they are the furthest from reality that they have ever been.
