Market Oracle: Grain Markets Panic Buying, Export Controls, and Food Riots
Last month Taylor delivered some bad news. He pegs the odds of a major drought at 1 in 3, about double the usual risk. "There is a significant chance of drought," he said. At Iowa State , Taylor seeks to put the reams of weather data into historical context. A major drought typically strikes the Midwest every 18 or 19 years, and the last one hit in 1988. Taylor noted the average length of time between major Midwest droughts is 18.6 years. "The longest gap between major droughts in 800 years is 23 years, so if we don't have one by 2011, we'll break an 800 year-old record," Taylor said "We're overdue," he noted.

"In addition, the past 17 droughts were preceded a year earlier by dry conditions in the Southeastern U.S., just as occurred last year. "That gives a significant chance of drought," he said. "

With world resources becoming scarce, obviously their will be riots and unrest by the angry mob, coming to a place near you, in the not so far future! Civilisation is a thin veneer!
Hopefully Ian lungold is correct and the chaos is only short lived, before taking that next evolutionary step!

Who was keeping rainfall records in the midwest 800 years ago?

Happy Mondays,
I have got some more thoughts of how this "fifth night" destruction might play out.
2 big WW2 "fifth night" mapped dates coming up:
14 June 2008 - D-Day landings
6 July 2008 - Hiroshima and Nagasaki A-bombs
We know the last "fifth night" 1932-1952 is where Power overcame LAW.
To summarise, we have had 100's of depressions and wars in history, but the Great Depression and WW2 were the first to have been fully orchistrated by the Power Elite.
But this is the view we can only see 60 years after the event.
What was the consciousness change at the time from joe public?
Wars had been brutal before but the big difference this time was the A-bomb.
For the first time in history humans realised that we could destroy the world.
The Battle of Stalingrad (12-20 May 2008) resurfaced in Burma and China.
My guess is the D-Day landings (14 June 2008) will resurface in Europe.
The Irish vote on the EU Treaty of Lisbon is on 12 June
Intuition says that the WW2 A-bombs (6 July 2008) will resurface in USA.
The primary focus here will be 9/11 truth and AIDS is a man-made virus with a deliberate intent to kill blacks and gays.

Gold is at $907 this morning
Looks like the low of 850 on 2 May was the end of Elliott wave 4 correction
Techieman - are you still with us?????
If the final Elliott 5 repeats itself like in the May 2006 blow-off, it should last for approx 2 months.
This correpsonds closely to the WW2 A-bombs "fifth night" mapping on the 6 July.
A peak in gold and a change in world consciousness in early July - there is a brave prediction

UT,
Tree-ring reconstructed rainfall over the southeastern U.S.A. during the medieval warm period and little ice age
http://www.springerlink.com/content/p302761t71338v21/
Abstract A 1053-year reconstruction of spring rainfall (March-June) was developed for the southeastern United States, based on three tree-ring reconstructions of statewide rainfall from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. This regional reconstruction is highly correlated with the instrumental record of spring rainfall (r = +0.80; 1887–1982), and accurately reproduces the decade-scale departures in spring rainfall amount and variance witnessed over the Southeast during the past century

S2R,
In my youth, I spent a pleasant summer studying dendrochronolgy in Suffolk under Dr Oliver Rackham.
There is only a loose association between rainfall and tree ring size - a lot depends on other factors, not just how much rain, but when the rain fell, how hot it was, and how much cloud cover there was at the time. The extent of pest attacks is also very significant.
For this theory of an 18.6yr cycle to be convincing, there needs to be an underlying causal factor identified.

Trying to come to grips with the world food crisis, it’s hard not to subscribe to some version of a conspiracy theory -- that somehow, for some reason, this rush towards widespread world famine is actually a plan by a world clique intent on drastically reducing the world population, accelerating the collapse of national governments, allowing gigantic world corporations effectively to take their place, controlling vast areas of land, leading towards a world governed by these corporations. Especially with the US so clear in its assumption that indeed widespread famine is in the cards, for which it does not want to be held responsible. Forget about global warming (which is of course very real and harmful to food production). Here are a few more red flags. - Eric Walberg

Love it or hate it - youtube is key in this information war.
No. 1 video today
McCain's YouTube Problem Just Became a Nightmare

Will Ron Paul gain from this?

s2r1 - not really - "peak in gold and a change in world consciousness in early July - there is a brave prediction"
Not really brave at all. We can't measure half of it, so it's not falsifiable and you already appear to be backtracking from your falsifiable position of $1500 at the end of June.
I note you've added 'man-made AIDs' to your long list of garbage. Is there nothing you won't believe? No depth you won't sink to?

Trees keep records of rainfalls and drought conditions. You count back the rings from the outside. In drought years, the rings are much thinner.
