Nah, the cost of living is still the same. The value of Sterling is what's gone down.

Interestingly the cartoon almost depicts what happened in Germany during the war years ie where a women had a basket full of money and she was mugged - they dumped the cash and took the basket becuase it was of real value.

Sorry to be a pedant, but the German hyper-inflation was around 1923 when they were faced with massive reparation demands following WWI, and printed their way to a solution.
Whether the story is actually true is debateable!
