Blame it on the fatties!
BBC News: Obese blamed for the worlld's ills
Obese people are contributing to the world food crisis and climate change, experts say.
They are also responsible for using more fuel, which has an environmental impact and drives up food prices as transport and agriculture both use oil.

Of course the average obese person has a shorter life expectancy than someone that is not so mass challenged.

House 'em in big warehouses producing gas for fuel. 'Battery Fatties'. Leave it to your imagination where the pipes go.

Typically BBC. Trying to detract attention from Gordon Brown, who we know should be blamed for everything.

I know there should be a funny side to this post, but it is also extremely irresponsible for the BBC to publicise such utter rubbish!
Have they even considered the fact that most 'skinny' people tend to order that same sized meals and throw away more food etc which in turn ends up in landfill and has just as much impact on the environment.
And it's very rare you see a fat boy racer! Now these skinny idiots fill there cars up and rev their engines on Asda car park - are they not doing damage too??
Not to mention all the air head blond bimbos out there with their monthly hair dying regimes and fake tan parties - I'm sure these chemicals are fab for the environment! Sunbeds anyone? Then there are the huge 4x4 cars they use to get around - especially the blond mums!! Big mother truckers I call them.
And what about treadmills - don't get me started on them - draining our power stations of energy all in the name of making the thin gym goers thinner.
Just so everyone's clear, fat people are lazy, inconsiderate slobs. They don't recycle, they all over eat, then they eat some more, they watch telly, they pollute the environment and they'll eat your children if your not looking - so watch out! That's what the BBC might as well have said.
Oh by the way BBC, we fat b*****ds pay our TV licence too you know - and we probably watch the damn thing more too!

So this time it's not Jews or Blacks (sic.) it's fatties?
What is this, the Fourth Reich?
"Thin people are genetically superior and fatties should be sterilised!"

Don't know about sterilising fatties, but sterilising politicians can't be a bad thing.

Whether it's credit or food, overindulgence is not something to be encouraged. We do openly castigate the former on this site.

Hadn't thought of that one cornishman. :)
Seriously though I am sick of the media and the government(s) looking for scapegoats rather than openly admitting that their bailouts are being used to speculate in commodities to ensure profits and bonuses for the banks and by doing so making life more miserable and difficult for the poorest of the poor.

Is it a slow news day today?
Earthquake in China? Typhoon in Burma? Seen that, done that, now lets get down to the important non-time related news......
Please remember corpulatent BBC - so called fatties are people too.....

"First of all the increasing demand for food, drives up production. This means that agricultural processes are using more oil to meet demand, which contributes to the rising cost of fuel."
Who comes up with this cr*p?

''So this time it's not Jews or Blacks (sic.) it's fatties?''
Actually that is a rather uneven comparrison, as it isn't possible to change one's ethnic state....but to lose weight, all you need to do is keep your feet out of the chip shop.

'fatties' are just savers, they store up energy for the lean times ahead. Its prudent to save. Again in this world savers are hounded by the popular press and governments.

Fair point hpwatcher, which is interesting, as irrational scapegoating is never fair.
I guess if food prices rise and people can't afford to eat, and have to go out and do hard manual labour to earn a crust, obesity may become less of an issue.
Some people are just big and that's always been the case, I guess it's a question of proportions of the population. I wonder if these "experts" used the same calculation that said the average house would cost a million pounds within a decade (trees do not grow to the sky)
