Another take on Broon's housing policy

Daily Mash: Government to give your neighbour's house to junkies

"Junkies are finding it increasingly difficult to get onto the housing ladder as they deal with the combined pressures of taking crack, swearing at each other as loudly as they can and throwing their rubbish over the garden fence."

This is a joke, right? The Mash wouldn't carry a story like this. It must be the Express.

This is the flip side to GB's intention to buy up unsold new hopuses and use them for social housing.
I commented on this the other day.
GB trying to make it look as though he's helping and in the process wiping 30% off the value of new homes.

Would you buy a new house if you though the one next door would end up being used for social housing.

The true story is either

1/ GB trying to find the bottom of the housing market asap so he can get re-elected on the back of an upturn in the housing market or

2/ GB backlash at developers who've stopped building and made him look stupid as his plans to build lots more houses go up the chimney.

I had the misfortune to make the mistake of living next door to a "social" house about a year ago.

Scum.

str2007, At least 1 in 5 new houses built on a site is for social rent and generally mixed in right next to or pretty close to the market housing, so if you're a snob buying on a new development, then I'm afraid you're screwed anyway.

The government intent to buy up unwanted new homes is just a pragmatic response to an opportunity presented by the falling market. Developers are offering homes that they can't sell to housing asociations, so in some cases it may be cheaper on the public purse to buy these "off the shelf" than to build new social homes using government grant. But actually the government hasn't provided much money for this - they have provided about 1/3 of the amount they provided when the same situation arose in the 90s, and houses now cost 3 times as much. Plus, housing associations/councils aren't interested in every property offered, because developers are generally offering small flats which won't help to house the families who are waiting for social housing.

Couldn't resist it. You saw it here first; the new official buzzword moniker for Crash Gordon is the "Sub-Prime Minister".

This is a "mock" news site, with no fact based news.

Another good one is newsbiscuit.com

It might be a mock news site, but with GB buying up houses for social housing, it is going to become horribly true for some. Having lived next door to a junkie in social housing, I can tell you it is certainly no joke.

Lets not forget that the fallout from the city of potentially thousands of finance workers and most of them chasing the dragon will need to maintain the habit, be re-possessed and might move in next door.
