Peter Hitchens speaks out!!

The Mail on Sunday: Why should we be angry that houses are getting cheaper?

Peter Hitchens is like John Redwood. I can't agree with everything he says, but at least he says what he means.

P. Hitchens must have studied this Site.-------- Maybe!

He Says: "The whole thing's a fraud and a fantasy. Why do we all fall for it?"

The First part of his Article is the kind of article needed in mainstream media to help the general population understand the real value of a home and the irrationality of it becoming increasingly more expensive.

Well Done ---- He is a brave man.

This apart, he goes off in a tangent in support of not kicking a man when he's down, and some more general social changes that are needed.
These views are nothing new and widly accepted. Hopefully his initial views in the first part will become just as widely accepted.

Funny thing is, I'm pretty sure he did, but not five years ago. As soon as I read it I looked at the datestamp as I'm sure I've read this article before.

I think he's copied and re-submitted a column from a year or two back..

Slowly the press is starting to feel able to point out the very obvious which is that prices as they are actually harm this society. They don't help it at all.
There will always be the VI editor or columnist - thats to be expected.

I cannot see how anyone can justify keeping prices this high. There is no logical reason to do so other than to keep a small section of society very well off.
For just about everyone else - in the long term - it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Which is basically what he has pointed out. About time a politician actually stood up and made the point. Instead of cowering in corners.

The press are only interested in selling papers. So all they need is a story.

"Falling house prices are good for everyone" is a great story.

We need to feed them more, and they will print more.
