Is the Halifax Building Society in trouble.

The Times: From The Sunday TimesApril 20, 2008

I just rang the Halifax as I had to pay my company insurance. The system was down. When they spoke again they said that their systems had changed. I basically had to do an electronic transfer which I do all the time. It used to be immediate but now it appears that I have to wait two days for the money to leave my account and this is for everyone in the Halifax. I asked them for some evidence that I rang them as it was an important transfer and they would not guarantee that. They just said that although I rang at the weekend they would not start the payment till Tuesday. Could this be a cash flow problem Why would they just change something that had been in place for the last 30 years. Its like they need to check what is going out for some reason??

There seem to be a few 'changes' happening at Halifax lately. Mostly delaying tactics to slow down the flow of money (outwards of course). This includes much stricter lending terms. The impression perceived is not good and could cause large scale withdrawals from worried customers. Halifax is either trying to get it's house order or experiencing cash flow problems. A bit of both I suspect.
BOE you are needed even more as every day goes by. Paper mills are booming.

This might be more to do with stopping an electronic run on the bank should some nasty rumour start flying round cyber space again.

I wonder how much they lost after the last one..

I too have been experiencing stonewalling from the Halifax it seems to me they are not one dot interested in providing a decent service. I have spent hours on the phone trying to track down a Web Saver account that they insisted I had to close then re-open another, citing a technical problem. Now I have absolutely no details of the new account - seems strange at this time of the credit crunch.

The Halifax have to be the worst bank that I have ever dealt with. They seem to make it up as they go along. You never get the same answer from anyone. I am trying to deal with my father's estate and they are making it as hard as possible. They are still charging him interest on his overdraft and credit cards, even though they have known that he passed away almost a month ago. They are disgusting, I would take your money out as soon as possible!

I agree that the halifax is bad in coping with disability. the manager in Lymington did not seem to care and did not explain that the local phone number was redirected to a call center and the receptionist said "just walk in to your nearest branch". the manager said" there is no-one to speak to you,get an appointment." She did not seem to care and was rude. I pointed out I was disabled and had a stroke and could not stand. The manager herself had plenty of time to chat to her employees but no time for me. she really needs retraining or redundancy.

The Halifax must be the most uncaring and incompetent bank of all time.We transferred £2000 from a liquid gold account to the premium savings a/c 6 months ago and now they can't find it. They are very sorry and fully understand we are upset but they must find out where they have put it. They have not written, or telephoned, they just do not care.

Halifax is known to be incompetent.

Check out this music video "X Marks the Spot" on Youtube. It's by Andy Duerden, and sums Halifax up in a song and video. Spot on!
