Bloody hell Mark what a posting.........Gordon would have to turn us into frogs (with small willies) to get us to vote for him. And I doubt that would work

Very Funny

Just wait 'til the Banks introduce these people to BTL mortgages.

It'll be like the tobacco companies all over again.

Not that funny. I know somebody had this done to them, in revenge by an Italian who fervently believed it possible. Her victim didn't know about it, until informed later on and had already noticed the results and could figure out whot the...... Think about it. Scientists have been documenting more and more that what they are THINKING effects what happens in experiments at an atomic level. So thought process has a grave effect on what happens in physical space. Everything is composed of atoms.....so? Funny part of the anatomy perhaps, but not funny to terrify people about their most valuable assets. More valuable to them than houses probably.

Come off it. If 'thinking' could have any effect on pen!s size - there would be way more well hung men walking around than there are at the moment!

Thinking can have a huge effect - chaps here will have to admit that thinking about ceratin things makes quite a difference..

Seriously, though Indiablue does have a point. It has been shown scientifically that a patient's psychology can be more significant in recovery than the treatment itself.

I do however also have an entirely unproven suspicion that what you think and say have a material effect. After all, what is it that makes name-calling, or a lying politician/EA so offensive? Logically it is clearly untrue and can be dismissed, so why does it rile us? Sure there are lame excuses like "it might mislead someone", but the emotional reaction precedes any logical thought.

Another thing to say is that, having lived in West Africa, there is a very real "presence" to this kind of thing. In the West it gets poo-pooed as "the natives" having "superstitions", but if you've experienced the creepiness yourself, the classic materialist brush-off sounds pittiably short-sighted. I know people, both local and expat, who have seen things the no respectable chest-beating middle-class white-minded person would want to give credence to. It's dark and it's nasty - a bit like the sense you get from a gang of kids hanging around causing trouble. Nothing "superstitious" about that particular sensation.

There's a lot of so called superstitions we laugh at. Dohousescrash is right. There is a presence to this kind of emotion. And here's a more pleasant example. Have you ever seen the film clips of fire "sparks" from well wishing bushmen flying past the Space Shuttle Columbia? They were sent up there from a fire on the ground in Australia set for the "spacemen" to know they were being thought of and supported by the aboriginal people. Impossible to see those flying in the stratosphere right, especially right out side the window? But they filmed it. There's lots more in the world than we "educated" people know about.
