What planet are these fools living on?
Telegraph: Property market: A spring recovery
Flogging a dead horse.......
"There's been a small but important change in direction," says Richard Donnell, research director at the consultancy Hometrack and an adviser on housing markets to local authorities and government bodies. "After eight months of falling demand, our latest survey saw a clear pick up with an eight per cent increase in buyers. This is a smaller rise than we'd normally see but with interest rates coming down it seems buyers are coming back to the market."

Interest rates coming down!! News to me. Yes folks it's nearly spring and more people start looking at houses than during winter. Grasping at straws I think.

Dispicable rubbish! How these "journalists" look at themselves in the mirror is beyond me.

BOE might drop rates but mortgage rates (particularly trackers) are rising - double digit rates on the horizon for some borrowers
"There's been a small but important change in direction," - how about a more realistic "prices have stagnated and in some cases begun falling before continuing on a downward spiral. We have no idea when we will hit the bottom of the market"

These people will say absolutely anything....
This statement unmasks these people, and shows them for what they are.

People will always look at houses, just like they avidly look at Ferraris on Top Gear. Doesn't mean they can afford one or are in a position to buy one.

Is there any credible, mainstream newspaper left in the UK?

The ironic thing is that 99% of the readers comments (below the article) ridicule it as nonsense. When will they realise that the public no longer believes the hype! If they want to sell newspapers they had better start printing stuff people believe! The tide has turned!

"After eight months of falling demand, our latest survey saw a clear pick up with an eight per cent increase in buyers. This is a smaller rise than we'd normally see"
i.e. the rise is less than the seasonal average, so seasonally adjusted would be a fall. So, in fact, a fall in buyers compared with this time last year, not "a clear pick up" - this article is meaningless.

i.e. smaller than the seasonal average, so when seasonally adjusted this is in fact a fall in buyer activity.
This article is meaningless.

This kind of crap - 'special features' - is usually written by naive children or aged freelances long past caring about anyone actually reading what they write so long as they can earn a few quid. It's shovelled into the paper by equally failed/inexperienced sub-editors at the front of special ad sections, and in print, people do tend to treat it as the advertising puffery that it is.
It does make the Telegraph look ridiculous though, with Jeff Randal talking sense on one page, and then this pish only a click away. Unfortunately on the internet site all stories are equal.

Monkey sees, Monkey does! Mortgage rate cuts - not everyone reads the "right track" telegraph/express/toilet paper. Do the math? On a £150,000 bog standard mortgage, a full half percent cut would save you £62.50p a month. Meanwhile, you're property value is DECREASING by £37 a day. Erm, can someone pass me the salt, I'd like to rub it into my wounds.
Better still, I might just read the ex-pat forum for a laugh! What a bunch of muppets.

Did you read the comments under the article? Not many people fooled by this errant nonsense.

Those that are stupid enough to believe it, are in no position to buy an Escort on Ebay let alone a house. Harmless inane drivel.

Well, there are fools, damn fools and property pundits. How about Mr Spencer's "both buyers and sellers are in good positions". He can't be that stupid. Oh all right then. It seems the worse the financial situation, the more crassly optimistic they are.

So let's get this straight. An increase in buyer numbers BELOW what would be expected at this time of year = a pickup in the market.
Well if that's the best they can come up things must be really bad.

Wow, I normally buy a telegraph (ok, not ever day) but this is at best an advertorial, its even has houses for sale at the end of the advert, I mean article.
I have emailed and posted the telegraph to say that the editors should be doing a better job or I will have to stop buying it.
I suggest we all start moaning at any papers that reports such one sided arguments, whether or not house prices continue falling I would like to be able to buy a good paper that actually reports the news not run advert for property millionaires.

That's funny, Fools, cos my landlord has just served us notice on our flat. Hope 50% house price drops happen in the next few weeks so I can snap up a bargain, otherwise I will have to find somewhere else to rent and that would be terrible. Oh no, hang on - it will be fine.
