The Times wants the gov to give the housing market a springtime boost!
Times: Opening bids: the Government is in a fix - one of 25 years
This housing bubble has already brought down some international banks and threatens the world economy, but the Times is still talking it up. This housing bubble forces first time buyers into a life-time of debt, but the Times is still talking it up. Do they have no sense of journalistic responsiblity?

Probably not, because they know how much of their advertising income comes from the property sector!
It's all about the lucrative revenue streams these days, the journalism comes a poor second.

It's Anne Ashworth ... she's the one that said that this site is full of ne'erdogoods and liars - the statistics are also lying and all is well in the housing market.
Ignore her - everyone else does.

Prediction : Best of all, half their readers won't be able to afford a newspaper by this time next year anyway. They think the Internet will rescue them. It won't, because lies are easily challenged on ths platform, as is happening here.

Come on, since when did any Murdoch rag do anything but promote the agenda of Murdoch and his friends? If you still take your news from the Times you deserve to be mislead don't you? You wouldn't believe Fox News, or Sky News, or The Sun, News of the World etc. etc. So why expect anything more of the Times? The Times just crafts it's propaganda with a little more sophistication in order to deceive it's slightly better informed readership. It still serves the same purpose, for the same people, as all the others.

I highly recommend the new book Flat Earth News by Nick Davies for a full description of how modern journalism works. His take is that much more than control by advertisers, or control by proprieters, it is simply the need to make a quick story cheap which drives modern "churnalism".
So PR dominates - it's quick to rewrite a press release. There are more organisations wanting to do PR to keep the house price bubble up, than do PR to let them fall to their natural value. The only way out would be a decent union of first time buyers to do some PR on the other side - something like http://www.pricedout.org.uk/. Shelter http://www.shelter.org.uk/ are I guess an NGO that does this a bit.
