small building societies halt fresh mortgage lending
BBC: Small societies restrict lending
"The Bath and the Earl Shilton have withdrawn all their deals, except those at their standard variable rates."
The first of many as we go into the great UK property unwind?

I love the way the BBC relegates Capital Economics damning appraisal of the housing market to a footnote at the bottom of an unrelated article here:
"The economics consultancy Capital Economics - which has long argued that the housing market in the UK was a bubble waiting to burst - warned that the drying up of funds might lead to a downward spiral of falling house prices this year."
I think there should be a public inquiry of the BBC's role in stoking house price inflation. It is verging on criminal.
