The strong fundamentals chestnut is out again. The Uk economy is built on HPI and financial services. Both are in decline.

In engineering terms, strong fundamentals can result in harmonics in a system that is distorted. Systems usually employ negative feedback mechanisms to reduce this... take these out and wild oscillation can result. The harmonics can sap most of the systems power and then the power of the fundamental is reduced

The most entertaining part of the world of finance is the metaphors... turbulence, casinos, tsunami... but the old maritime ones are the most vivid. This economy isn't turbulent or buffeted... its holed below the water line

I still haven't sussed out how to fight the last concept, terrorism, and now he expects me to fight turbulence. What's next? "We will fight blueness in all its forms!", "The great and brave british public will never cease fighting calm and relaxed auras!". The fat git couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag.

Hmmm - very brave man Mark - what are the odds on Barclays shares then? Beare Sterns lost over 98% from their peak - are you sure Barclays won't go the same way? Lots of people must be worried about Barclays if they have dropped so low. That said - I wish you well - you are just alot braver than me in the current economic climate.

I'm with Cameron on this one. Where is the money saved and stored by Brown during the glory years of his miracle economy. My Gran referred to this as, "saving for a rainy day".

Thank heavens he (Brown) has not sold our gold reserves :-)

Mark, you are definitely a braver man than me.
I have just been looking into buying shares in barclays, and have been put off by the fact that the president of barclays cashed in over £2m of shares this month... Think I will hold off for a little while longer
