"We will not tolerate market participants taking advantage of the current market conditions to commit abuse by spreading false rumours and dealing on the back of them."
The FSA and BOE are the only ones allowed to commit these abuses!

Why are they so bothered with the market being talked down when it has been talked up for years?

Back in the old days when Building Societies were just that, Halifax was the largest by a big margin, followed by Abbey National and with The Co-operative Permanent (name later changed to Nationwide), in third place. HMG are going to have to print an awful lot of money if the rumour has any foundation.

Too true, plato, in answer to your question....no-one. You are a disposable asset, as we all are to these financial "brains" and governing plutocrats. Where is Monty Python and "The Crimson Permanent Assurance", sailing the accountant sea, destroying the new face of corporate finance, when you need them.

Of course you are absolutely correct --- a shame the FSA and the rest don't share your honour and integrity.
Actually that article is so overflowing with denials and full of bravado. 'Worried' is probably an understatement They must be seriously in need of new underwear. I can smell them from here.
