BBC: 15mph speed limit for eco-towns
Caroline Flint stated that; "We have a unique opportunity to deliver a programme which will genuinely revolutionise the way people live"; ideal for a failing economy then!

With Banking sector in crisis and house prices falling, inflation poised to jump and an election coming up, I do not know where the first time buyers are coming from. Where is the money coming to build these Eco towns? more dept?!!!!
I think that Cameron has shown the way to new lieber..'On yer bike pals'! Government has licence to do what they want.. reck lives by over lending and then say sorry. Why not the rest of do what we want and then say Sorry.

We'll end up fighting over caves and berries if some of these people have their way!

How is driving around in third gear eco-friendly? This is another media-friendly knee-jerk policy brought to you by the "Stability" party.

Well the government could cut fuel use by cars (if they really wanted to) by around 30% just by reducing the speed limit on motorways from 70mph to 60mph, and enforcing that speed limit.

Agree rickyb, but where would they recoup all the lost revenue from?

the whole eco towns thing is a red herring anyway. They just want more houses full stop. But the idea of an "Eco-town" is easier to sell to a gullible public than a normal new town.

I suggest that Mr Brown did this so that he had something to announce. Mr Brown does not care about our countryside. He is Scottish! At present “brown-field” sights carry vat and “green field” sites do not. He has been lobbied for 10yrs about this anomaly. Why has he never done anything about this? I suggest he does not feel the pain. You only feel pain when something is dear to you. I’m assuming of course that the building industry is not donating large amounts to the Labour party. I also suggest that if I were to announce (assuming I had some authority and money) that I wanted to build 4 million homes over the highlands he would act.
