I suggest that the dollar problems have precipitated a re-examination of fundamentals.
Worldwide credit is under the microscope. The UK debt situation does not look good. The (flagship) UK finance industry is flawed and closely allied to the USA.
Therefore UK PLC needs to be marked down (even the UK electorate don't rate the government on it's handling of the economy - see Reuters poll).
