I was awake (at my desk!) when it happened. Strange - I felt the whole house just sway backwards and forwards. I was an earthquake virgin, so it really was unreal. An omen, perhaps...

This is an Omen,

Don't buy a new build home, they are made of cheap material and thrown together too quickly.
If I lived in a new build house near the epi-centre of the earthquake, I would be seriously worried..!!

I was awake aswell. Thought I was imagining it at first. It was rather puny, though.

Our floor boards and stairs creek badly. I was in bed and thought some burglar had got into the house and was coming up the stairs. Then I could feel the house shake, which reassured me on the burglar front. I like in Berkshire.

The last time there was a financial hurricane - the stock market crash of October 1987 - there was a real hurricane too. As Michael Fish might have put it :

"Earlier on today apparently a lady rang the BBC and said she heard that there was an financial earthquake on the way. Well don't worry if you're watching, there isn't."

Does anybody remember The 'O' Men, comedy superheroes on Take Heart?

I wonder how much extra negative equity was caused? Many properties must have sustained damage or some sort or another so presumably are worthless today than they were yesterday.

Sorry - I live in Berkshire.

The k is nowhere near the v. No excuses really.

Where is the edit function?
Webmaster, I would like to think the site could get updated as it is archaic compared to modern networking sites like facebook.
But maybe not.

1. We would probably lose the history blogs
2. The site is our character. Stephen Hawkin was offered a voice upgrade as technology advanced but declined as it was his defining characteristic.

I was another person awake at my desk at the time and felt it. After experiencing a tremor in Japan I am familiar with what one is like so new immediately what it was. Being on the second floor of a house was less scary than the 35th floor of a Japanese hotel that swayed for 10minutes after :o)

Facebook is the most irritating site in the world. I can't stand it. Much prefer hpc.

Although an edit function would be nice. Not really worth the development costs given that the crash will happen soon and there will then be no premise for the site.

inbreda,

"Not really worth the development costs given that the crash will happen soon and there will then be no premise for the site"

1. This implies the crash will be fast, simple and straight forward, which IMHO it won't
2. It also implies that we only blog about HPC, which is also not true if you examine the posting topics. Most of us enjoy the blogging experience.
3. Finally, when are we all gonna meet up for a beer? Webmaster??????????
