Half the UK have financial concerns ....

Guardian: Economic confidence plummeting, poll shows

A sharp drop in economic confidence is hitting poorest people hardest, according to a Guardian/ICM poll. The poll shows that economic optimism has fallen away since the start of 2008, with a majority of voters (51%, up from 45%) now worried about their financial circumstances and the cost of living.

Expect this figure to rocket as middle earners start to see through the economic mirage of cheap credit. I know a few people in their mid forties who are starting to feel the pinch enough to want to ditch their nice motors to pay off their loans because their mortgage payments are starting to hurt due to increased living costs. These guys have decent jobs and earn around 50K a year but have large travel costs and the burden of teenagers to fund and can see themselves sinking into debt if they don't do something about it.

Expect 51% to be nearer 60% by April.
