agreed over three years.. oh dear!
bbc: Teachers given pay rise of 2.45%
Teachers in England and Wales will get pay rises above the 2% set by Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
This is another slightly off topic, but relevant because the teachers have been conned into signing up for a deal over three years..

good for them....just a shame that most will never, ever be able to afford to buy their own houses.

Return of the 70's then. Labour just can't help taxing and spending, coupled with the lies over inflation, real prosperity is nosediving in the UK and we're being downgraded to the lowest common denominator. The trickle of highly trained people leaving these shores is now turning into a flood but the destruction of Sterling will make a move away financially less appealing - stuck between a rock and a sh*thole I reckon!

Why does GB want lock-in pay deals for 3 years? - beacause he knows that the mother of all infaltion waves is about to hit. And, of course, strike action will be illegal.
Nice.

With today's fixed inflation figure, I have no doubt that rates will be cut in Feb and once more before inflation takes off towards the end of the year. I predict 6%+ base rate within 18 months before hitting deflation.

Harold the Mother of all Inflation waves is coming over us right now, it's just conveniently not appearing in the Stats. Question: Where are the Unions? Aren't they supposed to be protecting their members pay and conditions? Where is the media? Where is the Opposition? It's all deathly silent... Not one for conspiracy theories but The Establishment of all political persuasions are remarkably quiet on this subject AND the NR scandal.

Unfortunately the unions seem to believe the inflation statistics - at least they do where I work. We will all have to live on memory cards. They are certainly a lot cheaper than they used to be.

Sorry, I don't agree. If anything, highly trained people are arriving at these shores, because the UK education system isn't churning out enough skilled employees to fill the jobs. I'm currently one of just three British people in my team of twelve!

I once worked at a college. There are two unions, but the biggest is Unison.
We are talking about teachers here though, and they do live in another world...

Hmmmmm - pay cuts all round then. By the time real inflation is taken into account, this will mean less money in the pockets of those who accept these crazy 2-3% pay rises. It will all add to less money being available for mortgage payments and yet another nail in the coffin of the house price bubble.

Not true. The Unions keep spouting that inflation is over 4.5% and have done since October time last year.

I remember back in the 70's my father, then a fire officer was screwed by similar deals. Strike action followed and we all knew families who really struggled. How anyone can hope to have a decent home, savings, a family and access to the things that make life happier on the insulting salaries we pay trained professionals is beyond sense.
This country grows uglier by the day, the people are exhausted, broke and disempowered - socialism is dead, GB is just a Tory in a bad suit. Of course we will all vote for change, but my advice is exercise your right to move away while they still allow it!
