Tax may be boring, but it consumes more than 75% of the GDP
MSN Money: What the Tories are promising for your cash
Just landed on my desk, and ok, a bit off topic, and its got a political slant (but now you know just add a bit of common sense", but since the Government takes back over 75% of the GDP into its own coffers, we really should be more aware of how much of a rip-off we are all suffering.
I suggest that everyone reads this if only to just brush-up. Nothing too enlightening, but I encourage you to at least follow the links in the ARticle on "Inheritance Tax", "Stamp Duty", "do not pay any Tax", "Home Information Packs", etc.

I know its an old chestnut of mine, but if the Government was to REDUCE the tax burden by 1% this would equate to a 3% boost to the private sector. It is really just plain common sense, the government does not support (pay benefit, etc.) 3/4 of the economy, it is so ridiculous I am surprised that nobody has done anything about it.
Basically a 1% REDUCTION in Tax would give a 3% boost to the Private Sector. In itself this would get us out of any forthcoming economic depression. Hey why not DECREASE the tax burden by 3% or even 4% and boost the economy by 10%. The message I am getting is that for some unknown reason the Government wants to slow down the economy, make us uncompetitive in foreign markets, destroy our Manufacturing Industry and Private Sector businesses involved in or competing with Foreign Trade.
Oh, it is so Politically Incorrect to suggest that the whole of the Public Sector (Doctors, Nurses, Police, Local Government and Nationalised Industries) should make a 4% saving. Long live the Christmas Party, may it start now and carry on into the New Year, I need a drink to drown out reality.

The main parties are all merely baton carriers for the ideology of Milton Friedman. Only the party names are different to promote the illusion of choice. We're supposed to believe we can punish the 'bad' politicians at the ballot box (currently, New Labour are the whipping boys), but the sad reality is that whoever gets into office is obliged to enable policies dictated to them in advance by major corporations (the CBI) and media magnates (The Murdoch press) - being allowed a little filigree of differing detail, here and there, to keep party supporters happy.
