Well at least the shareholders of NR can afford a dentist
THE AUSTRALIAN: Audacity of the Northern Rock game
Anatole Kaletsky | November 16, 2007
LAST week I asked, perhaps a little hyperbolically, whether tens of billions of pounds of taxpayers' money should be diverted from health, education and social services to subsidise the bonuses of stockbrokers and salaries of bankers.

Why have not the shareholders been issued with a bill?
To help keep this lame duck afloat.
I am sure they were happy to collect dividends in the
Past.
lack of action on this demonstrates that there is one rule for
The rich share holders and another for the rest of us.

There should be no special deals done at all.
The loan was a loan with interest. Especially since we are talking about Billions of pounds.
This fiasco is taking the 'banking system' to extremes that it should not be taken to.
If a Bank has behaved so badly with its lending practices that it cannot find funding for it's lending then it should sink.
The shareholders should lose their money and the directors prosecuted if they have behaved irresponsibly.
Confidence in Banking shouldnt mean handing out money whatever, it should mean that "we" all have the confidence that Banks are lending money responsibly.
They are in this position because they were irresponsible and everyone knows it.
Let it sink and let it be a lesson to all other banks.
