Quick, look over there!

BBC "News": BREAKING NEWS - UK population to 'double by 2081' (perhaps)

Why this is breaking news is beyond me, but looks very much like thegovernment has gone to plan B and invoked weapons off mass distraction against its own population. The article states "population could hit 110m in 2081 if there are high rates of immigration and fertility". Well if there are high enough rates of fertility, it could double again etc. etc.

Do the BBC have no integrity at all any more?

Er, no. But then again, the BBC never was independent - just look that their pro-royal stance, for example.

And to think that we are forced to pay for our own propaganda... the gullibility of the UK population never ceases to amaze. I guess it has to do with centuries of oppression.

However, in my own mind at least, I am nobody's 'subject', least of all the Queen's.

A constant drip-feed of appalingly blatant articles aimed at shoring up supply/demand arguments for ever increasing house prices. This trash gets hoovered up by the legions of BTL morons out there so they can 'justify' their ridiculous investment decisions. The BBC hacks are laughable.

...expect much more of this though as increasingly desperate White City employees see their £250k 2 bed flats plummet and their cocaine budgets get slashed as a result.

I hate to sound alarmist, but from the emerging climate change evidence I suspect there will be few parts of the world still habitable in 2081 and I suspect the world will be a very politically unstable place to try and survive, let alone multiply. With just the one planet to live on, it beggars belief that government and business continue to put short term profit way ahead of enviromental impact.

The British used to world leaders in propaganda.

Perhaps we should all be grateful that the 'new' Corporate BBC is every bit as incompetent as our Corporate Government. In fact a reduction in quality of service seems to be a hallmark of everything that Our Government attempts to 'make fit for purpose'.

For decades people have believed without question the skillful distortions, half truths, and downright lies presented as 'news' by our daily propaganda service, is it really such a bad thing that people are becoming more able to see 'the wood through the trees' ????

Wahey!

And bang on cue, the idiot police have moved in, removed the article and put something else in its place, with a completely different headline, and a bit more depth.

They must love this editorial freedom of being able to change headlines after they publish them. It also indicates that they have a very trigger-happy supervisor on the "publish" button in his DTP software.

Amateur buy to let landlords turn their hand at ... amateur news publishing!!

ROTFL! That is the limpest "Hey look over here!" tactic I've ever seen the BEEB do.

They've basically done a simple "on current trends the population COULD be this ....". You could also say that on current trends our economy wouldn't be able to support a rising population. Our economy is in decline, it's only performed recently due to masses of un-sustainable debt (which has to be paid back with interest).

Some predictions from myself !! -

By then North Sea oil will be long gone.
Manufacturing will hardly exist.
Immigrates won't want to come here because their country will be a better place to live in than Britain.
UK standard of living won't be in the top 50 countries in the world.

"UK population may double by 2081"

74 years to double in value? - don't put any money in it folks, far better to invest in bricks and mortar 'cos house prices double much quicker than that...and never go down, right?

This is 0% correct, guaranteed :)

If you read the article they state that the current population is 60 million, the probable 2081 estimate is 85 million (42% rise), the high 2081 estimate is 108 million (80% rise).

So not only do they choose the high estimate, but they also round it up to a 100% rise. So the headline is "may double by 2081", so they forego accuracy in the "double" bit, but keep it accurate with the "2081" bit.

This is not sensationalism, it's blatant distortion.

I'm surprised by the incredulous reaction from many commentators here at the 'cult of house-price-crash'.
The ONS is only giving its best guess of population trends, and BBC is fairly reporting this important environmental issue.

I fully expect a small drop in house prices over the next year, but the long-term trend is definitely up.
