Reuters: Weak data, BoE send pound to 4-1/2 yr low vs euro
LONDON, Nov 15 (Reuters) - Sterling fell to a 4-1/2 year low against the euro on Thursday as weak UK retail sales data fanned speculation of an early rate cut with more to follow.

Does anybody know if there are any better euro accounts than nationwide offering 4.35%? Also if you gain by speculating on the euro are you liable to capital gains tax?

The trouble is that most of the current crop are from Islington or the Home Counties and are just pretending to be Socialists to get into power. Whatever their origination, they've systematically destroyed the UK - and all in just 10 years (I guess the only thing they've been pretty efficient at!)

When the £ goes back down to $1.95, won't all our US imports cost more (because we are buying in low value pounds)? If that happens, won't inflation go up?
MMnn...

Certainly will Alan, and no amount of statistics fiddling will be able to cover it up.

The rot set in the late 1980's
This was the start of the culture of greed and dishonesty
Labour has just continued with the same style of policies
They had 10 years to correct some of the bad policies
But they chose not to.

How can I take any forum seriously, when contributors posit such lazy characterisations as 'New Labour' being: 'from the slums' or in any way being - or claiming to be - 'socialists'? Sorry guys, but Ramsay MacDonald and Clement Attlee left the building a long time ago. In case you hadn't noticed, this is the most privatisation and 'business-friendly' administration we've had in office for decades - just begging for any opportunity they can get to decant the country's remaining wealth into the pockets of the rich. And sorry to disappoint any Tories reading, but it's actually one party state we're living in; the deal is that the multinationals decide the overall policies by which we live, and our vastly differing political parties each get a turn to put them into practise, while pretending they're driven by some sort of overall ideological vision.
