Kiss Goodbye to The Rock
FT.com: Time to nationalise Northern Rock?
If current proposals for the Rock are unattractive it should be nationalised, run down and sold off a bit at a time over six or seven years.
A bit like the 1970's and 80's really.

Offloading this onto taxpayers is going to leave a very bad smell around the whole affair for the UK public.

One large flat screen TV of smell each so far....
On a positive note, in relation to government taxes, a trifle.

This is Enron, possible not as sophisticated, but the hallmarks are there, and this is massive money.
The bit that stinks with this one is the officials will offload to the tax payer(if they have not already).
I do hope the shareholders bring a nice big fat legal action on Applegarth.
Of course I may not completely understand the legal framework.

What's all this offloading business? Most of it is in public ownership already ;)
