It's official. This is the worst year ever for layoffs in the U.S. financial-services industry -- and there's still more than two months to go.

Let's have some sympathy. Many of these will be low-paid call-centre workers, back-office administrators, secretaries, etc. Job losses are no fun for the people involved!]
