1.8%? I don`t think so

BBC NEWS: UK pub lunch price soars to £20

Yet another indicator that prices are going up and away. I think an occasioal pub lunch is on most peoples menu in a month

Depends on the pub. There is a good food pub near Stoke where I am from. Actually it is a transvestite pub nicknamed "The $ock and Frock" but they do good cheap food. Just thought I would share my general knowledge.

I don't think that pub lunch would be part of any inflationary calculations.

But what I think is the reason for this are the following.
1) Increase price of food 20-30% in the last year
2) And more importantly most of these pubs are chains. And most of them have been recently taken over (private equity) and have loads of debt on them. With increase in interest rates they need to have more sale to make ends meet.

Now because of this increase in price, the demand will fall ( law of demand) And hence to make ends meet i.e. meet interest payments prices have to rise even faster.

I got the impression it was more to do with the rise in Gastropubs giving other pubs ideas above their stations.

Benedict, you may have a point. Then again, I wouldn't class Weatherspoons/Walkabout/etc. fare as "food" - at that price it must be abatoir dreggs.
