"It is unfortunate, but the pub trade generally has declined - especially in this area," he said.
"With the very high cost of living, there is not much money left over at the end of the month for beer."

The cost of living in this country has already destroyed larger businesses than this.
The only difference with this one is that it is actually dying as opposed to re-opening in eastern Europe or south-east Asia.

After loosing our 2 petrol stations, the pub and the post-office and the off-licence we have this week lost the Indian Takeaway who converted his shop into 6 bed-sits. My local area is now literally a ghost town although we do still have 3 estate agents, a fitted kitchen shop, a posh knickers shop and 2 hairdressers. It's starting to remind me of that 1980's specials song, or is it just change for the better!

This is almost certainly a crap excuse for: 'we worked out we'd be a little bit richer if we flattened the place and sold the land for housing'
Trivia! - watch the markets guys - stuff's happening across the pond..
.. just when people thought sub-prime was just a bad dream..!

One thing is certain. When beer is in lower demand, its price must come down. Another element for deflation, in conflict with the inflationary pressure artificially created by the desperate manipulation of crude prices.

look for more charity shops, that is a sure sign of an area on the brink... after the last crash the only way to fill empty shops was with charities...
