LONDON (Reuters) - Britain is in a much stronger position than many other countries to withstand a global credit squeeze, Chancellor Alistair Darling said on Sunday.

That's not what we need, its the relative buying power of residential investors that has first time buyers in the dock. We need mortgage repayment tax rebates taken from buy to let's to rebalance the market, not some compromise botch job of a tax cut for first time buyers, which will merely inflate the price of the average first time buyer property.
