Question:
If Northern Rock now chose to take every single penny of the money they had deposited with them and decide to put it all on black 13 down at the local casino, so as to try and generate some liquidity, and lost; it wouldn't matter as the government is guaranteeing all deposits?
If this is the case, if it was me, and not Mr Applegarth(or what ever you call the gambler), I would contact the boss of a local casino and offer to go halvers with him.
Wow, is that not the best get rich scheme ever?

As per previous weeks we will now get smug editorials in the newspapers from alleged experts telling us that the crisis is over, until
that is the next problem blows up in everyone's faces.

northern rock savings are now some of the highest yielding government securities in the world. you'd be insane to take your money out now - zero risk, and a 5.5-6% ish return. no chance you'd get anything close to that in gilts

"Northern Rock said that 8 out of 10 people calling the bank inquired about returning money to their account"

Bet NR was glad not all their customers wanted to return their money otherwise their phone lines would have gone down again!
