Guardian: Northern Rock crisis hits consumer confidence
Quote:
"The monthly snapshot of consumer confidence from the research group Gfk found that consumer confidence weakened in September and grew markedly worse after the Northern Rock crisis"
But the Times says "A special Populus survey for The Times gives Labour a double-digit lead".
So the public feels bad about the mess Crash Gordon has made but will still clamor to vote him back in.
There's nowt so queer as folk as they say.

Just as the strength of the pound is a measure of US weakness, a vote for Labour is a verdict on Liberal and Tory weaknesses and the inability o vote for minor parties such as Greens in first past the post.

Thatcher gave us the early 90's crash but we still voted Major in when the crash was in full swing.

Indeed, the Conservatives do a very good impression of a premier league football team heading for the Conference (no pun intended), a bit like Manchester City a few years back.
Unfortunately, we all have season tickets (to take the metaphor way too far)...

The Northern Rock crisis is being blamed for all of the country's ills:
1. Responsible for the dip in confidence of consumers
2. Responsible for the dip in the housing market (which will accelerate)
3. Responsible for the lack of confidence in banks
But the reality is that cause and effect have been deliberately muddled.

The Rock is a convenient scapegoat for those who will not face or won't admit the problems this country has stored up through lax lending and cushty government for the last 10 years.

The problem is a total lack of viable opposition!.. Brown WILL get his mandate to lie and manipulate, the only question is how big will his majority be!
