Browns desperate Tax Grab set to accelerate as the economy turns to poo!

BBC: UK taxman targets offshore wealth

The Revenue is already pursing some 40,000 UK citizens who have offshore accounts with High Street banks.

Following a legal ruling, Barclays, HSBC, HBOS, Royal Bank of Scotland and Lloyds TSB have already been ordered to hand over the names and details of their UK customers who had accounts with branches based offshore..

One of the main reasons that people don't pay tax (after sheer greed) is they think the government will waste their cash.

If the government wants to impress taxpayers it should cut back on the acres of politically correct jobs it has created which don't earn the country a penny. After its done that it can cut back on the ridiculous level of officialdom and targets in the NHS and Education.

The jewel in the crown (Financial Services) of the UK economy has been trashed.

I have the feeling that things are about to deteriorate in the next 9 months. Time to call a snap election.

Rumour has it that GB will announce the date for the election on the day of Cameron's speech at the Conservative Party conference next week. A nasty spoiler tactic typical of New Labour, I suspect this rumour has some credibility.

Alan, the government created these jobs to keep up the illusion of a booming economy, if they got rid of all the Politically Correct jobs they have created the unemployment figures would go into orbit. Add in all the lightweight university courses that keep mediocre students off the street as well as the number of over 55's on incapacity benefit and one wonders what the real unemployment figures actually are.

Most of these accounts offered by the usual clearing banks offered piss-poor rates in any event - they looked good because they offered rates gross of interest. Now that they've been nailed, anyone with any sense probably owned-up before the June deadline. Anyone who works abroad regularly, deposits money overseas and can withdraw cash in the UK probably has their finances sorted anyway.

Yes, A corruption of the french word for bored, as although a very creative person I spend all day dealing with the rampant pc bullsh1t and blame adverse culture that has evolved in this country rather than be freely allowed to get on and solve some of this country's most challenging problems. If I didn't actually care about what I do I would have dropped out or emigrated years ago but as I can trace my roots back to pre 1066 I'm staying and not giving up by leaving like so many do.

Despite the coming financial distress I am also inclined to stay. For all it's faults, this island does have some good aspects. If only we could kick out our current government incumbents and bring in ideas like social responsibility, financial responsibility, strong communities... A 'service' economy only works during the good times.

I think they should get rid of the non-jobs and hire teachers instead. It makes perfect sense. Why have traffic wardens for example, when you can have teachers instead?

In my most cynical moments, I convince myself the government doesn't want good education, as they will find they might actually have to start debating the real issues and delivering results when the majority stop reading trash like the Sun, and the Metro.

And watching Big Brother.
