Scapegoat?

Times: Home pack extension sparks fears of slump

Will HIP's be the convenient media scapegoat/excuse for any downward adjustment of the property market.

The Vested Intersts (who talked up the property prices and persuaded buyers to stretch beyond their means) are keen to avoid any blame for the impending downward correction.

Whatever next - pathetic!

Unless...

you are property rich yet cash poor - and will need credit to pay for your HIP ;-)

I understood that one of the main benefits of HIPs was that a detailed survey would be paid for by the seller, to avoid needless mulitple expensive surveys by interested buyers. Why was this dropped by the powers that be?

We've even had photos this weekend of Kirsty manning the barricades against HIPS. It's a bit like claiming that the Titanic sank because it lacked a single rivet.

I doubt they can publicly pin the HPC on this. In fact doesn't the introduction of this suggest a firming of price. It is as they say supply and demand, well if this has any effect it will reduce the supply and therefore push up the price of the fewer houses around for sale. Or have I got my economics wrong??
