Round up of subprime news

FT.com: In depth: Subprime lending crisis

Useful portal that lists a host of headlines related to sub-prime. Interesting the FT has now created this as a sub-site. Suggests this is drawing a lot of interest. Noticed one piece saying that Bear Stearns has frozen a third fund, which invested in Alt-A. Looks like it's spreading.

This idea that it has spread / is spreading is premature.

The Alt-A and even prime funds had borrowers who were leveraged to the hilt. What we are seeing is the predicatble and inevitable consequence of loose lending standards and misappreciation of risk.

The "Alt-A"s and "Primes" equally overstretched themsleves and now as the inevitable happens we will see more failures.

The contagion will come later as other asset prices are driven down due to forced liquidations
