If this is the case (which it is) then surely such a scheme is extremely liable to be exploited to the full monetary value at some point (which it appears to have been) and as such most of the money has already been siphoned out of the system by the players?

Don't look now...... but there are signs in many Essex High Streets still offering 120% mortgages, 6x salary. In the event of interest rates jumping up unexpectedly, and house prices taking a tumble, the building societies behind these schemes will expect favourable treatment by the BoE (just watch).

It seems certain parts of our economy want to be diehard capitalists till things go adrift, then want to be rabid socialists!

Incredible. What a shambolic state of affairs...the tax payer will now bail out the crooks. Welcome to the 21 century.
