telegraph.co.uk: Business comment: Indicators come no clearer than stealing to survive
Love the quote "the liberation of goods by the financially challenged"
Does bad economy lead to falling house prices or does falling house prices lead to a bad economy?

FOLKS I THINK THE FIRST SUB PRIME LENDER TO GO UNDER HERE COULD BE NORTHERN ROCK. I KNOW THAT IT APPEARS THAT WORD FROM THE STREET IS SCOFFED AT BY OUR GURU ON HIS WEB SITE, BUT WHENEVER I HAVE BEEN TO THE REPOSSESSION COURTS AT THE LOCAL COUNTY COURT, THE MAIN REPOSSESSORS ARE NORTHERN ROCK AT THE MOMENT. IT WOULD APPEAR THEY ARE THE MOST EXPOSED....
"... Warning from Northern Rock looks inevitable
Northern Rock and a hard place
Is there a profit warning coming from Northern Rock? Few banks have such a specific exposure to the recent turmoil. It specialises in sourcing funds from the money markets which it re-lends to homeowners, rather than rely on deposits to back its lending.
All lenders do it but none in such volume as Northern Rock. Its source of funds has become significantly more expensive in the past week which means its earnings are under pressure. It has warned once recently, back in June, when money market rates were rising on anticipation of higher interest rates.
But that was before the most recent bout of instability brought about by banks' fears of a much wider risk of international debt default. Northern Rock's shares have been hit hard as the market anticipates looming bad news. None has been forthcoming..."
