BBC News: Markets settle down after storm
After spending the first half of the day watching the FTSE and Dow go negative, they're now looking far healthier. Darn.

And then, as if by magic, the Dow slam-dunked itself very convincingly below 13,000.
I'm no expert, but I can see this "one step up, two steps down" carrying on until a lot more of the scant truth is out.
I guess the market can only be rational based on the information it has, so spin and obfuscation are both counterproductive, but perverse incentives remain for companies and governments alike to prevent the dissemination of accurate information.
Is there anyone who is willing to tell the truth, even if it is not in their visible interest, just because it's ultimately better that way?
