BBC caption to the picture is "Gone in 17 minutes" which misleadingly makes it sound like properties sell 17 minutes after being put on the market.
Buyers on average visit 14 properties before they buy and goodness knows how many they screen before that on the internet. Is it news that people get a gut feeling about a place in 5 minutes in comparison to the other 13 they have seen?

The outside of the house is more important than the inside. If it is near a main road, in a flood zone, miles from the station if you want to commute (or want to sell to commuters when you come to move) then these are problems you can't fix. The interior decor can be fixed quite easily. I bought my house after a single short visit - although I did have a full survey. But far from being casual about the process I spent a great deal of time studying maps, walking around the area at many different times of day and night, and trying to evaluate it objectively with a spreadsheet of dimensions and prices. The survey finding is probably right but I don't think it is such a bad thing.
