If a collective noun existed for the myriad of housing market surveys it would probably be 'a confusion' -- one week headlines declare house prices are soaring, the next that the market is cooling fast...

I think it's fair to say that house prices are going to cool at some point. Maybe it has just began. But, like clockwork, every 7 years the market expreiences a small boom and has increased above the rate of inflation ever since time began.
I think a house price crash will always be a possibilty in a market of peaks and troughs.
