The actual reasons for the great depression following the Wall St crash is still hotly disputed by many academics.
However, the Wall St crash was a result of public TRUST and faith that because the "rich" were making money in securities, the common
man on the street could. Also, it could be argued that poor margin lending regulation, allowed the bubble to swell far too much.
Effectiuvely a combination of lapse credit regulation and greed.
